The District’s hydro-electric power plant in San Dimas is also located along the pipeline. Through this forward-looking initiative, “green energy,” or electricity, is generated. Built in 1985, a turbine engine is powered by water flowing in the pipeline. This 1.05-megawatt generator produces enough electricity for over 500 homes each year. The revenue the Water District receives through energy sales helps to offset operating costs.
